Following a competition run by Kendrick Homes Limited and King Edward VI College in Stourbridge to help design a new ‘Welcome to your New Home’ card, the winner was announced recently at an awards event at the college.
Naomi Reed, a year 13 student at the college who is studying graphic design was announced the winner after a strong contest of over 20 short listed entries.
She was presented with a prize of £250 plus vouchers for artwork products by James Rennison, managing director at Kendrick Homes Limited, and her name has been included on the ‘New Home’ card as the designer.
James commented at the event, “The competition provided an opportunity to engage local students and tap into their talent, giving them an insight into our company and experience of working to a brief.
“Naomi captured all of our requirements and we are delighted with the new card which has already been sent to our customers.”
Naomi said, “I am absolutely delighted to have been awarded the winner, particularly as usually I would never enter such a competition!
“However, the thought of having the opportunity to create a design that would ultimately be used in the commercial world was a real draw for me.
“I plan to utilise my prize on purchasing an Arts Tablet which we greatly help me to develop my graphical skills even further.”
Stewart Monk, subject leader for graphic design at King Edward VI College commented, “Naomi's contemporary vision of the new home card held its own. Her simple, clean and Spring like imagery was both fresh and welcoming but combined with the Kendrick Homes colour scheme added another element to their brand.
“Naomi showed how in applying a methodical approach combined with a rigorous development philosophy as a result of taught skills, that she could present a coherent design in keeping with the Kendrick Homes ethos – and we are very proud of her achievement. Well done Naomi.”
Remley Mann, Principal at King Edward VI College commented, “We are very appreciative of Kendrick Homes for providing the opportunity to participate in such an exciting competition, which has given our students the chance to produce a commercial graphical design.
“I am particularly impressed with the fact that Kendrick Homes have also chosen our students for this initiative and I think this is a testament to their genuine desire to both make a contribution to, and engage with the local community.”
